The First Amendment was about religion. This amendment states that the "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise." Something else in the first amendment is the "freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The Second Amendment is " a well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This is one of the amendments that related to the colonial disputes with the Britain and reflect many of the ideals in the Declaration of Independence. The Third Amendment is that if a soldier was at war and didn't have a place to stay then you have to welcome him into your home. The third amendment quotes, "No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house....." Before the Revolution the British pressured colonists to shelter and feed British soldiers. The Fourth Amendment is "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue." This means that if a police officer came to your home he could not come into your home without a search warrant. The Fifth Amendment is that "no person shall be held to answer for a capital or otherwise infamous crime unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury." This means it can protect people from having to testify at their own criminal trial. The Sixth Amendment is "the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed." This protects the rights of a person who has been indicted. It guarantees that person a speedy trial. Public trials ensure that laws are being followed by allowing the public witness the proceedings. The Seventh Amendment is "where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars the right of trial by jury shall be preserved and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined in any Court of the United States. This means that juries can decide civil cases. It is possible to harm another person without committing a crime. They can just sue the person. The Eighth Amendment is "excessive bail shall not be required nor excessive fines imposed nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. This means that you are allowed to be bailed out of jail. To be bailed means to set an amount of money that defendants promise to pay the court if they fail to appear in the court at the proper time. The Ninth Amendment is "the enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be constructed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." This means that the rights listed in the Constitution are not the only rights that the citizens have. The Tenth and final Amendment is "the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States respectively or to the people. This means recognizes that the states and the people have additional powers.
